Patriots Reportedly Find Mac Jones’ Backup For The Season

Last season, Mac Jones went from a rookie Pro Bowler to a player who was holding onto his starting job with the New England Patriots for dear life, as it seemed like he took two steps back rather than two steps forward after a promising first season with the storied NFL franchise.

For whatever reason, Bill Belichick and company thought it would be a good idea not to replace longtime offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, who the Las Vegas Raiders hired to be their new head coach.

That decision was disastrous for the franchise as the team struggled all year on offense while driving Jones a little crazy in the process because there was zero guidance on that side of the football, which is crucial for a second-year player, especially at quarterback.

During training camp this year, the Patriots made the questionable move of releasing all their quarterbacks besides Jones.

Even though they brought back Bailey Zappe and Malik Cunningham on the practice squad, there was still only one quarterback on the roster until Thursday when the Patriots reportedly claimed former Carolina Panthers quarterback Matt Corral off of waivers, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

The addition of Corral seems like a solid pickup for the Patriots, as he was a third-round pick of the Panthers last year but missed all of his rookie season due to a foot injury.

Corral might prove to be a decent backup for Jones, as he was a solid player for Ole Miss before an unfortunate injury prematurely ended his stint with the Panthers.
