The New York Knicks shocked the world when they took Kristaps Porzingis with the No. 4 pick in the 2015 NBA Draft, considering he was kind of under the radar before the final week ahead of the Draft.
Then, they shocked the NBA community again when they traded him out of the blue.
For years, no one really knew why the Knicks decided to give up on their apparent franchise player all of a sudden.
Now, the Latvian big man finally shed some light on what went down behind closed doors.
Talking to JJ Redick for his ‘The Old Man & The Three’ podcast, Porzingis claimed that the Knicks didn’t care for the fact that he brought ‘his own guy’ after he got hurt to work on his rehab.

He stated that he didn’t feel valued at the time because he wasn’t able to contribute on the floor, adding that there were ‘many things’ that led to the trade.
Apparently, the relationship between both parties had broken.
Even so, Porzingis admitted that he wished he had never requested a trade, as the Knicks would already trade him anyway, but now he had given them an excuse to move on from him.
Porzingis added that he wished he would’ve done a lot of things differently in his stint with the Knicks, and he seemed kind of sad or nostalgic about it.
So, who knows? Things didn’t end well between him and the front office, but perhaps he’ll have another chance to play at the Big Apple before it’s all said and done.
